The Mets need 14 more victories to reach an embarrassing total of 70 for the season.
At the start of the 2012 campaign I felt that 75 to 78 wins would be a decent total based on a few factors.
Among them was the status of Johan Santana.
Santana, coming off major surgery, was a question mark at best. The fact that he's thrown the first no hitter in Mets franchise history among his 117 innings pitched on his way to the current 6-9 record indicates to me that even when when "healthy", Santana's still has some life left but his best days are more than likely behind him.
The fact that he even took the ball for 21 starts this year should have been a boon to the Mets fortunes this season, but........
