Mets 5/30 Three Stars....Adios May....After 50 Games !!!!
Having lost 2 of 3 games in the month ending series against the Phillies, the Mets finished the month of May with 15 wins against 13 losses giving them a season total of 28 wins and 23 losses. As June opens on Friday versus the Cardinals at Citi Field the Mets find themselves a game and a half behind the Washington Nationals in 3rd place in the National League East.
The St. Louis Cardinals, in Atlanta to finish the month, also dropped 2 of 3 in their series with the Braves finishing May with a record of 13-16 putting them at 27-24 for the season a game and a half back of the Reds in second place in the NL Central race heading into the four game series in New York beginning June 1.
Despite the myriad of injuries which have beset both clubs through the first 50 games of 2012 both would appear to be competitive enough to make the chance of meaningful late season baseball more promising in both Flushing for the Mets (thought not tremendously promising) and here in St. Louis for the defending World Series Champion Cardinals.
