Mets 3 Stars :The 5/29 "HEFNER" Edition

Rookie pitcher Jeremy Hefner, in his fourth MLB appearance, took the ball and the game into his own hands Tuesday night at Citi Field.

The young right hander making his 2nd start pitched 6 solid innings against the hated Phillies and added a home run to boost a sluggish offense.  The Mets also got 3 hits from rookie SS Omar Quintanilla in addition to a pinch hit homer from Scott Hairston and then waited through a 64 minute rain storm delay before Hefner could celebrate his first big league victory with a 6-3 win.

Meanwhile in Atlanta, even the torrid Yadier Molina couldn't carry the Cards over the hurdle of a Braves 5 run night against Jake Westbrook.  The newly signed catcher tried his best by posting a 4 for 4 night including his eighth homer and drove in 3 runs, running his season total to 32 RBI as St Louis fell 5-4.

The Mets will face the Phils tonight in the rubber game while the Redbirds look to take the series in Atlanta before the 2 clubs meet in a four game weekend wrap around series in New York
