While the Mets try to get the desert sand out of their collective mouths from the 3 game sweep at the hands of the NL West leading Diamondbacks (and 5th loss in a row), they head to the “deep South” of California for a series with the Padres in San Diego beginning Monday night as they “play out” the string that is the remainder of the 2011 season.
I’m looking for all the “extend Terry Collins” posts and comments I’ve seen over recent weeks now that the Mets have dropped out of contention for the NL Wild Card (11-1/2 games behind) and 20-1/2 games back in the NL East.
Here in St. Louis the Cardinals finished a 3-3 homestand falling farther behind Milwaukee which has won 9 of its last 10 games pulling out to a 5 game lead over the Redbirds in the NL Central. St. Louis heads to the confluence of the Ohio, Monongahela and Allegheny rivers in Pittsburgh, for a series against the fast fading Pirates.
It’s looking pretty bleak for the Arch shadow dwellers although they do have 6 games remaining with the Brewers and should fare well with 7 games against the Pirates, and 3 each versus the Cubs and Dodgers before their next scheduled engagement with the Brew Crew on August 30 in Miller Park.AS ALWAYS!!....
