From the embarrassment (other than Jason Bay hitting a home run and getting 3 hits for the first time in forever) that saw Mets pitchers issue 9, yes 9 walks en route to a ridiculous 7-3 loss to the Oakland Athletics on Tuesday Night in Queens, Here are:
Meanwhile in downtown St. Louis, Cards right hander
Kyle McClellan matched the Phils Roy Halladay, basically pitch for pitch and was lifted after 7 innings with a 2-1 lead only to see his bullpen "teammates" cough up that lead and an embarrassing total of nine, yes 9 runs in the 8th en route to a series opening 10-2 loss to the Phillies.
On the bight side, I missed the carnage as I headed out of the ballpark following the manager's decision to insert a yet again ineffective Jason Motte with 1 out and 2 on in that eight inning.
Both the Redbirds' and Mets' bullpens are currently in such a bad state that unless the starters can get through the eighth with a lead of more than 3 runs, the game is never in effective hands.
