Finally following the Mets horrendous seven game losing streak low lighted by disgusting displays of poor fundamental baseball, bad managerial decisions, horrid base running and general utter nonsensical play we Mets fans had an opportunity on Sunday to select our Mets 3 Stars of the Game in a contest that the team actually was able to win over the Braves in Atlanta
The 3rd (2nd full) week of the 2011 season began with the Mets and the St. Louis Cardinals heading in opposite directions as the Mets lost their 3rd of four season opening home games on Monday to extend what would ultimately be a seven game losing streak over 6 days which included rain forced doubleheader sweeps at the hands of the Colorado Rockies at Citi Field and Atlanta Braves at Turner Field before salvaging 1 win for the week as they beat the Braves on Sunday thanks to a fine outing from emergency call up Dillon Gee before heading home for this week’s home stand.
The Redbirds meanwhile headed west for their 1st trip to the Pacific and Mountain Time zones of 2011 in Phoenix on Monday after limping out of San Francisco with a win on Sunday. The Cards bats came alive in the Arizona desert as the club enjoyed an explosion from Lance Berkman in taking 2 of three from the D Backs while scoring 31 runs in the series. The offense continued as slumping 1st baseman Albert Pujols led St. Louis into Chavez Ravine for a 4 game set with the Dodgers and proceeded to bash 3 homers in the first three games as he began easing the fears of Cardinal Nation as the club took the first three from the Dodgers before beleaguered closer Ryan Franklin proceeded to give up a walk off homer to Matt Kemp blowing his 4th save of the young season erasing a ninth inning Cardinal lead that would have given the Cards a 7-3 record after the west coast swing before heading home.
Week 3 in Fantasy baseball was pretty successful for me as my teams were able to finish the week with 10 total head to head wins against 3 losses (unfortunately, 1 loss was to my pal Ken’s team).
Hope everyone had a blessed Palm Sunday as we head into Easter Week and all the Joy and hope it Brings to All.
As the schedule would have it both the Mets and Cardinals are off on Monday.
I plan on being at Busch for most of the games this week (weather permitting) but as always "Mets Live In Game Chat" will be here for fans of the Mets and foes alike.
