Texas Rangers: IT'S TIME !!!!
After "suffering" through 3 plus days of no MLB the curtain raises in San Francisco tonight on the 2010 edition of our annual Fall Classic, the MLB World Series .
As the San Francisco Giants prepare to host the Neophyte series participant Texas Rangers much of the nations sports fans, both die hard and casual, will tune in (except for Cablevision subscribers in the NY metro area, sorry) to witness the latest changing of the guard as the last 2 defending world champs, NY Yankees and Philadelphia Phils have been sent packing by the Rangers and Giants respectively Hopefully the Cablevision/Fox fiasco will be an economic boon for sports bars and restaurants with Direct TV or other providers even without the participation of the "marquee" Yanks or Phillies.
For the real baseball fans throughout the country and the world for that matter, the pitting of free agent to be Cliff Lee of the Rangers against "The Freak" Timmie "Hippie" Lincecum of the Giants will hopefully live up to the hype of arguably the game's 2 premier pitchers enough to make the series fun and exciting to watch throughout.
While the feel good stories of Rangers MVP candidate and addict Josh Hamilton, Japanese league retread Colby Lewis and owner Nolan Ryan as well as the Giants “revamped" since mid season Giants line-up (see Cody Ross), young C Buster Posey and the fact that Rangers C Bengie Molina will receive a World Series Championship ring and $ regardless of which clubs wins the best of 7 series as he spent 61 games as the seat warmer for Posey in SF before being traded to Texas in late June becoming the Rangers primary backstop, will be in the minds of many, Cliff Lee takes the mound by the SF Bay in his game 1 pre auction sneak preview outing, with the bulk of the hopes of the "bankrupt" Rangers franchise and fans set squarely upon his shoulders as he may be called upon as many as 3 times during the series against Giants ace Lincecum.
As a tried and true baseball fan I look forward to seeing the likes of Rangers' all around good guy, 3B Michael Young, 2B Ian Kinsler OF/DH Nellie Cruz, Hamilton, their other starting pitchers, CJ Wilson, Tommy Hunter and Lewis in addition to manger Ron Washington's use of his bullpen, especially closer Neftali Feliz, as they face Lincecum, Matt Cain, Jonathan Sanchez young Madison Bumgarner, closer/Beard supreme Brian Wilson as well as Posey, savvy veteran Edgar Renteria. the "Panda" (if Mgr Bruce Bochy deems him worthy of an appearance), Andres Torres, Mets killer Pat Burrell as well as under rated Aubrey Huff and of course Bengie Molina.
While as a diehard Mets fan, my loyalties should lie with the National League representative Giants, but I love the idea of a "bankrupt" professional franchise winning a title so I'll take the Texas Rangers over the San Francisco Giants in a 6 game series with Michael Young and Cliff Lee being named co MVPs.
Looking forward to the New York Mets naming Sandy Alderson as General Manger on Friday (next day open to make major news announcements in MLB) and hope to see, read and hear that he will soon interview Wally Backman, Tim Teufel, Chip Hale, Ryne Sandberg, Jose Oquendo, John Gibbons, Bobby Valentine and Dave Martinez to fill the vacant field manager position.
As Always Mets fans BELIEVE in our Future!!! *
