The St Louis Cardinals brought back oft injured Kyle Lohse for Sunday's rubber game match up with the Cubs hoping to see him inject some promise into a somewhat shaky back end of the rotation.. I was not fooled ...thi time..I refused to pick up the disappointing righty in any of my fantasy leagues. Mt instincts were proven correct on a beautiful sun baked afternoon at Busch as Lohse gave up a 1st inning HR to Cubs 1st baseman Derrek Lee who duplicated his feat in the 3rd after an Albert Pujols homer had tied it in the Birds 1st with his 30th HR. Lohse went on to surrender 7 runs on 6 hits as he was roughed up for 5 runs in the 4th inning without recording an out leaving his team mates in a 7-1 hole. Ryan Dempster held the Birds in check through 6-2/3 before the Cards rallied for 5 runs in the bottom of the 9th against the Cubs bullpen, including rookie C Stephen Hill's 1st MLB HR, to make the final a more respectable 9-7. The loss combined with the Red 2-0 shutout oof Florida leaves the Redbirds a game behind Cincinnati after a disappointing weekend that started with the "momentum" of the basebrawl in Cincinnati earlier in the week.
After a day off Monday the Cards will host the Brewers in a quick 2 game series sending lefty Jaime Garcia to the hill on Tuesday bight in an effort to get the club back on track.
The Mets' Mike Pelfrey faces the Phils Kyle Kendrick at Citi Field in tonight's nationally televised game in the rubber match of the series.
