We Believe In Comebacks Sorta

Johan Santana allowed a huge, by his standards, 6 runs in the 1st inning to the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 2 of the series at City Field last night. The Mets to their credit showed their resiliency by scoring 2 themselves in the bottom off of Cards rookie lefty Jaime Garcia and proceeded to make a game of it by allowing only 1 more St. Louis run over the next 8 innings and managing a 4 run 8th to tie the game at 7 forcing it to extra innings where Albert Pujols who'd been held in check through the series to that point grounded a bases loaded single to left to drive in the winning run in the 13th. A final comeback was not to be as Ryan Franklin, the 8th Cards pitcher of the game, was able to shut down the Mets in their half of the 13th.

The finale of the season series will be a Thursday matinee with RA Dickey, fresh off his contested removal in his last outing, facing Blake Hawksworth.
