As a kid growing up in NJ I was lucky enough to visit Yankee Stadium, Shea Stadium and the Polo Grounds in the "developmental" stage of my baseball fandom. The tavern my dad called his 2nd home would sponsor trips to the ballparks a few times per summer and my dad always made sure to snag a few extra tix for me and 1 or 2 of my buddies. When looking back now on these great experiences, I always recall how excited and sleepless the night s leading up to these excursions were and how if we would be going to Yankee and the "Big Bat", I'd try to watch or listen to some Yankee broadcasts in addition to my already beloved Mets games. The thing that stands out the most in my recollection is the fact that every time we played ball after going to Yankee, my friends and I would ALWAYS do our batter intro's imitating the God Like voice of Yankee Stadium PA announcer Bob Sheppard. Of course at the time we didn't know that this man was an iconic and world recognized professor and linguist. As we got around to football season I recall going to to a few Jets games at Big Shea but again having more vivid memories of Giants Games at Yankee due, I'm sure, in part to "The Voice" of Bob Sheppard. As time passed and the Giants moved to the Meadowlands(where Mr. Sheppard became the de facto "House Voice") and I became involved in soccer, I was fortunate enough to have the chance to play in several High School All Star soccer matches at Giants Stadium. One in particular match took place before the Cosmos played an international friendly vs. Germany and in addition to meeting the great Beckenbauer and Gerd Mueller, I will always cherish the fact that I was introduced onto the pitch for our game by the Great Bob Sheppard.

Johan Santana steps to the mound today with out the services of Jose Reyes in the starting line up in an effort to capture 1 win from the division leading Atlanta Braves before the All Star Break. Reyes will not play in the summer classic due to his continuing issue with discomfort batting left handed. He has been replaced by the Dodgers Rafael Furcal.
The Mets will encounter 9 game winner Derek Lowe they attempt to salvage a game and avoid a sweep by the Braves.
