The Mets took it to Adam Wainwright and the Cardinals last night benefiting from a pleasantly HUGE 3 run home from Jeff Francoeur and the continued steady, reliable if not outstanding pitching of Jon Niese.
The win puts the Mets back to 2 games above 500 at 51-49 as they beg Johan Santana to once more perform his usual magic against Cards rookie lefty Jaime Garcia in game 2 of this 3 game Citi Field series.
Francoeur's homer is shocking in itself, but even more so in that he was rumored to be headed for Kansas City in a trade involving reliever Kyle Farnsworth.
Once again the Mets have been bitten by the concussion bug as LF Jason Bay reported symptoms on the plane ride from the west coast and then saw Mets doctors in NY who ruled him out for at least last night opening the door for the Francoeur start and big night at the plate.
Interestingly Francisco Rodriguez was called upon to follow Raul Valdes for the ninth by fill in manager Dave Jauss. K Rod responded to this appearance, with a 6 run lead by striking out 2 of the 3 hitters he faced to close out what was hopefully the start of the Mets embarking on a run of success to get back in to the hunt for the NL East crown as well as the NL Wild Card berth.
Sources report Jerry Manuel will return to the dugout tonight following his 1 game suspension.., Not sure that's a GOOD THING !!
LET'S GO METS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
