Mets Drop Opener 4 - 2

Jose Reyes started off Game 1 vs. Matt Latos and the Padres with a single off third baseman Chase Headley's glove..Hope sprang that maybe , just maybe the Mets would get some runs for the usually "run supportless" Johan Santana. A Hank White 2 run bomb over the "Great Wall of Flushing " in the 2nd scored David Wright, who'd walked, giving Johan a 2 run "cushion." There would be no more ..no more anything .. no hits, no walks ...no more baserunners....nary a hard hit ball over the last 7 innings.

Johan pitched 2 outs into the 7th allowing 4 earned runs on 8 hits (3 from Adrian Gonzalez) walked 4 but struck out only 1..in taking his 3rd loss against 4 wins in 2010.

Heath Bell (17th save) finished what Latos (now 6-4) started and was held by 2 Padres relievers..

Jonathan Niese will attempt to give the Mets a nice going away effort in tonights make-up of yesterday's rain out facing Jon Garland..before the Mets head for 3 in Baltimore's Camden Yards and 3 at what I still call the Jake by the Lake in Cleveland gearing up for next weekend's long trek to the Bronx for Subway Series 2010 Part Deux.

Lets Go Mets..!
